About The Book

Author: Heather Anastasiu & Anne Greenwood Brown
Release Date: March 1, 2016
Publisher: Albert Whitman & Co (AW Teen)
Rating: 5 Birds

Kadence Mulligan’s star was rising. She and her best friend, Lauren DeSanto, watched their songs go viral on YouTube, then launched a solo career when a nasty throat infection paralyzed Lauren’s vocal chords. Everyone knows Lauren and Kadence had a major falling-out over Kady’s boyfriend. But Lauren knows how deceptive Kadence could be sometimes. And nobody believes Lauren when she claims she had nothing to do with the disappearance. Or the blood evidence…

As the town and local media condemns Lauren, she realizes the only way to clear her name is to discover the truth herself. Lauren slowly unravels the twisted life of Kadence Mulligan and finds there was more to her than she ever knew. But will she realize she’s unknowingly playing a part in an elaborate game to cover up a crime before it's too late?

If you’ve been here before, you know that Mystery/Thrillers are the fuel that keep me moving in life. I love them. I love them twice as much when they stump me, and I love them eternally if they shock me to the point of my jaw hitting the ground which I am pleased to say GIRL LAST SEEN did!

I had a really rare opportunity to read this book in the presence of the authors. More specifically, I finished it in front of them. You see, last week I attended a signing for Heather and Anne at my favorite indie bookshop The Red Balloon, and having only a few pages left of GIRL LAST SEEN when I arrived, I snagged a front row seat and read away.  As the pages fell away and I got closer and closer to the ending, I nearly jumped out of my seat to tackle hug them both. I NEVER, ever saw any part of the last 1.4 of the book coming. It blew me away and threw me for a loop.

The coolest part of GIRL LAST SEEN is that it’s told in 4 alternating POV’s and each author wrote 2 of them. While the POV’s don’t alternate equally, you get just as much as you need for the story. We even get some insight into the mind of the missing girl Kadence via video clips that are found. We definitely have an unreliable narrator in this one, in fact we have four. Someone knows something they aren’t saying, and it could lead to the truth about Kadence. Or could it…..

"Endlessly twisty, this deliberate head trip will keep readers guessing until the very end. The kind of dark, wild ride that begs to read in a single sitting." Kirkus Reviews, January 1, 2016

"A sexy, fascinating, fast-paced, and darkly dynamic mystery for teens.” School Library Journal, January 2016

"Bold, intriguing, and full of surprises. It's the kind of book that haunts you long after you put it down. I've read nothing like this before; a mystery to the very last page, defined by intense and tragic relationships, and warmed by the connections formed in a shared mission. I thoroughly enjoyed this." Kristen Simmons, author of "Article 5" and "The Glass Arrow"
