Welcome to my spot on THE ROSE SOCIETY blog tour for Marie Lu. I'm really excited to bring you Marie's top 10 super power choices – you might be surprised with what she picked. I also will have a review of the book for you and if you get through all that I even have an amazing giveaway for you at the bottom!
Marie Lu's Top Ten Superpowers
Okay, I’m torn on this one. I don’t know if this power would be a blessing or a curse—but as a mere mortal, the thought of immortality seems kind of cool, if only so that I could see how things are in the future. Also, if Brad commands it of me….
Toph’s power in Avatar: The Last Airbender, i.e. her earthbending and metalbending? Coolest.
8. Animal Control
I’ve always loved Beast Boy’s powers in the Teen Titans. How cool would it be to call a bunch of wolves to your side, or get a herd of wildebeest to do what you want? You could’ve singlehandedly saved Mufasa’s life!
7. Weather manipulation
PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER!!!! OF WEATHER! (The fact that I live in California, land of no water…..may have something to do with this one.)
Because 5 out of 5 dreams agree that flying is awesome.
I’m not entirely sure if I like this power because it’s so cool, or because I’m lazy—but just think of how much money you’d save in airfare if you could teleport.
The Force is pretty handy. I would think it particularly handy when you need to move to a new place, or get your luggage from the overhead bins on a plane without killing the people in front of and behind you. Or, you know, ominously crushing junkyard cars.
I love to travel, and I’ve always been jealous of people who can speak four, six, ten languages. (Also, it’s pretty charming. *coughTomHiddlestoncough*) Want, want, want.
2. Super Intelligence
How useful would this be? I’m talking about Neo-levels of intelligence, i.e. you learn so quickly that it’s pretty much like you’re downloading information into your mind. On a 1,000 Gigabit per sec connection.
1. Time Pause
This is the power I’d really, really love to have, because just think of how much stuff I could get done! A bit dorky, probably…..but productive.

Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all.
Adelina Amouteru’s heart has suffered at the hands of both family and friends, turning her down the bitter path of revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she and her sister flee Kenettra to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army of allies. Her goal: to strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers who nearly killed her.
But Adelina is no heroine. Her powers, fed only by fear and hate, have started to grow beyond her control. She does not trust her newfound Elite friends. Teren Santoro, leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead. And her former friends, Raffaele and the Dagger Society, want to stop her thirst for vengeance. Adelina struggles to cling to the good within her. But how can someone be good, when her very existence depends on darkness?
Warning: Spoilers to book one and minor spoilers to book two ahead.
I was still a little numb from reading THE YOUNG ELITES when I picked up it's sequel. My heart hurt, I was confused. What was Marie Lu's master plan in killing Enzo – how could this possibly benefit things? Well, as they always do – despite what we might think now and again – the author knows what they are doing.
Adelina is bent on revenge. For being kicked out of the Young Elites, and the death of Enzo only fuels that rage. Newly reunited with her sister, they set off on a mission to build their own society of elites, ones that are better than the Young Elites. We finally get to meet some of the elites mentioned in the first book as being myth, or impossible to find. Adelina is capable of anything, and I wish people would stop underestimating her. Particularly when the one thing she has trouble controlling is her power when she's angry or stressed out.
As new elites come into play, some of the ones we know best, leave. The Lu giveth and the Lu taketh away. Remember that, and a little like when watching Game of Thrones…just don't get too attached to anyone.
I am in love with the world building. It's would seem to be complex, but really it's straight forward and amazingly creative. What I wouldn't give to see this world first hand, with my own eyes! And I'm not normally one for fantasy books, I've stepped away from them in the past few years – but this is so far above and beyond what I would expect that I think it's time for me to change that way of thinking.
