Rappy The Raptor
By: Dan Gutman
Illustrated by: Tim Bowers
Release Date: April 28th, 2015
Meet Rappy the Raptor, a velociraptor who speaks in rhymes all of the time, whether it's morning or noon, October or June. Now, how did it happen that he started rappin'? Well, here's Rappy's story in all its glory!
New York Times bestselling author Dan Gutman and New York Times bestselling artist Tim Bowers team up for a funny, warm story that is sure to have readers snapping their fingers and tapping their toes! Parents and kids alike will love bopping along as Rappy learns to embrace his unusual way of speaking in this upbeat picture book with a dino-size beat.
My husband read this one to "6" and I think the best part was when I overheard her asking him what rapping was after her told her the title. Then of course him trying to explain it to her – even though she knows what it is if she hears it. Basically he just gave up on the description and read her the book.
The whole book is a rap, and it's adorable. Perfect for "6" because the rhyming helped her be able to anticipate what was coming next and gave her more confidence in reading on her own. As I mentioned in the first post, she's having a hard time getting the hang of reading still so any book that boosts her confidence is worth a million bucks to me.
Rappy falls on his head and then only speaks in rhyme. His parents take him to the doctor for tests, only to find out he's totally fine. It's a great lesson in "everyone is different, and that's good".
