A letter from Renée Ahdieh.

There are not enough words to express how thrilled I am to share THE WRATH AND THE DAWN with you! From the moment I typed the first word, I felt connected to Shahrzad and her world in a way that carried me through the long process of publication to where we are today.

Everything about this process has been a dream come true, and hope you love my book half as much as I enjoyed writing it. In celebration of release day, I'll be giving away a signed, first edition hardcover of the book, as well as a gorgeous scarf . . . or two!

Always remember to make it a story worthy of you!

Renée

A sumptuous and epically told love story inspired by A Thousand and One Nights

Every dawn brings horror to a different family in a land ruled by a killer. Khalid, the eighteen-year-old Caliph of Khorasan, takes a new bride each night only to have her executed at sunrise. So it is a suspicious surprise when sixteen-year-old Shahrzad volunteers to marry Khalid. But she does so with a clever plan to stay alive and exact revenge on the Caliph for the murder of her best friend and countless other girls. Shazi's wit and will, indeed, get her through to the dawn that no others have seen, but with a catch . . . she’s falling in love with the very boy who killed her dearest friend.

She discovers that the murderous boy-king is not all that he seems and neither are the deaths of so many girls. Shazi is determined to uncover the reason for the murders and to break the cycle once and for all.

Review

Absolutely, and with out a doubt the most beautifully written book I have ever read.

Oh yea, I'm starting with a line like that. That's where this review is going. I'm going to gush about this book for a bit then I am going to reach through my computer and throw a copy of it at your head and demand you read it this instant.

Many of you will look at the synopsis and think, "Oh, there's a lot of diverse words in there that I don't know, understand or can pronounce" and for some of you this can deter. This doesn't mean you don't like, or even love diverse novels, it just means you have a hard time learning new things and have to be in the mood for trying it – and you know what, that is okay.

What I want to make abundantly clear here, is none of it will matter after 2-3 pages. Ahdieh does such an amazing job of weaving two worlds together, that the new language (for which there is a glossary in the back, by the way) will become second nature. Easy to understand, straight forward.

Besides, the new words will be second in your mind to this beautiful and downright perfect story that Ahdieh has laid out before you. It mixes romance, adventure, centuries old tales and even a little magic all together in perfect harmony. Shazi's fearlessness and Khalid's complex nature will have you both rooting for and against them as they embark into uncharted waters of life.

Today this lovely book hits the shelves, and I implore you to pick it up. Get it from the library. Borrow it from a friend – do what you must – BUT READ IT. This is THE book of the year, this is our new Divergent, our new Hunger Games. I am so thankful to have been able to read this early, and I can not wait to see what Ahdieh brings us in book two next year!
