{Cover Reveal} Now That You’re Here by Amy Nichols

By: Me My Shelf And I | 31 January 2014 at 12:15 AM | | | | 1 Comment so far

We are really excited to be participating in the cover reveal for NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE by Amy Nichols! This cover is so full of awesome!!!

About NOW THAT YOU’RE HERE: Danny and Eevee are meant to be together . . . Just not in this universe.

Eevee Solomon has high school down to a science. Get the grades. Get the recommendations. Get into an Ivy League college, and eventually land a killer job at NASA.

Then Danny Ogden enters the equation.

Danny is a street-smart graffiti artist. He’s always managed to stay out of serious trouble, but this time he’s out of luck. One minute he’s running from the cops, and the next, he jolts awake in an unfamiliar body–his own, but different. Somehow, he’s crossed into a parallel universe. Now his friends are his enemies, his parents are long dead, and coolheaded Eevee is not the brazen girl he once kissed back home. Then again, this Eevee may be his only hope of getting home.

Eevee tells herself she’s only helping him in the name of quantum physics, but there’s something undeniably fascinating about this boy from another dimension . . . a boy who makes her question who she is, and who she might be in another place and time.

HER DARK CURIOSITY (The Madman’s Daughter #2)

By: Megan Shepherd

Today we have a special book birthday post for the amazing Megan Shepherd who I have had the amazing opportunity to work with on swag a few times! We’re celebrating by having a GIVEAWAY and a 25 Things You Might Not Know About Me feature! But first – The Book!

Her Dark Curiosity
The Madman’s Daughter #2
Publisher: Balzer+Bray

To defeat the darkness, she must first embrace it.
Months have passed since Juliet Moreau returned to civilization after escaping her father's island—and the secrets she left behind. Now, back in London once more, she is rebuilding the life she once knew and trying to forget Dr. Moreau’s horrific legacy—though someone, or something, hasn’t forgotten her.
As people close to Juliet fall victim one by one to a murderer who leaves a macabre calling card of three clawlike slashes, Juliet fears one of her father’s creations may have also escaped the island. She is determined to find the killer before Scotland Yard does, though it means awakening sides of herself she had thought long banished, and facing loves from her past she never expected to see again.
As Juliet strives to stop a killer while searching for a serum to cure her own worsening illness, she finds herself once more in the midst of a world of scandal and danger. Her heart torn in two, past bubbling to the surface, life threatened by an obsessive killer—Juliet will be lucky to escape alive.
With inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this is a tantalizing mystery about the hidden natures of those we love and how far we’ll go to save them from themselves.

Reading Megan’s 25 Things will certainly make you feel like you need to get up and go do something adventurous! I loved making it, and I know you’re going to love reading it!

{Top Ten Tuesday} Characters I’d never want to trade places with

By: Me My Shelf And I | at 12:05 AM | 5 Comments so far

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. It was created because of their love of lists! I myself love lists as well - so you will see it frequently popping up on MMSAI.

This Weeks Topic is

Top Ten Characters I'd NEVER Want To Trade Places With

This week had two options for the list, to see people who chose “Top Ten Worlds I’d Never Want To Live In”  go to The Broke and the Bookish for links.

1. Rhine from The Chemical Garden series by Lauren DeStefano – I mean that opening scene from the first book alone is enough to make me run the other direction – but then to be forced to marry and all the other things I can’t tell you because it will ruin the book.

2. Kristen from the A Touch Trilogy by Leah Clifford – or sure she appears to have it all, great vintage clothing (read: stolen from mausoleums) , tons of friends (read: people who are terrified of her), power (see previous), a hot boyfriend (read: not really boyfriend who is the devil. No, like literally) and the craziest case of schizophrenia this side of the nut house…wait..those are all reason why I wouldn't want to be her…I guess where I was going wasn’t headed anywhere..

3. Charlie from The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood– I mean seriously…This really doen’s need a whole lot of explanation.

4. Jeff from Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike – being haunted morning, noon and night by a spoiled rich girl. Not my jam, yo.

5. Sloan from The Program by Suzanne Young – I just seriously would not want to live in that world, where suicide is an epidemic.

6. Elise from Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas – well for starters I’d be dead, and I would know who killed me..which would bum me out twice as much. You need this book in your life BTW – it’s marvelous!

7. Alex from The Ashes Trilogy by Ilsa J. Bick – that kind of dystopian world with things something like zombies, but not really…hells no man. Plus everything she goes through…just, no.

8. Any vampire, from any book. – Being immortal just doesn’t seem to be as awesome as everything thinks it is.

9. Teeth from Teeth by Hannah Moskowitz  - that poor abused, gay fish boy. Okay maybe I might trade places with him just so he didn’t have to suffer so much.

10. Cathy from Flowers In The Attic by V.C. Andrews – locked in an attic for years, then fall in love with my brother? Pass.

{Book Review} Looking for Alaska

By: Me My Shelf And I | 27 January 2014 at 12:52 AM | | | | | | | 12 Comments so far

Looking For Alaska
Author: John Green
Release Date: December 28th, 2006
Publisher: Speak
Pages: 221
Rating: 1 Bird

Before. Miles "Pudge" Halter's whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the "Great Perhaps" (François Rabelais, poet) even more. Then he heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.
After. Nothing is ever the same.

After turning the last page of Looking For Alaska, I found my self looking for the point.

Welp, I don’t know what to tell you all but try as I might, I just couldn't get into this book. It’s 221 pages long and it took me 2 weeks to read it. Seriously you guys, I can normally read 221 pages faster than Justin Bieber can blame a buddy for drug possession.

The BEFORE section of this book, which takes up roughly 3/4 of it ,has little to no forward movement, I literally had to force myself to the next page for the majority of it. Get up, go to class, talk about this thing or quote that dead guy, go to smoking hole, plot less than amazing prank, have a minor amount of drama, drink, talk about sex. Repeat.

All these things could have been fantastic. They could have been mind-blowing and maybe back in 2006 when this book was published, it was. There’s the distinct possibility that I didn’t like this book because I read it too late, I’m willing to accept that.

But the fact remains, by my standards, nothing interesting happens and the characters don’t help out at all. I feel like I was supposed to find Alaska extraordinary but it was just the opposite. The rest of the cast of characters were either flat, or familiar. Or Both. Mostly both.

In all honestly, I don’t even remember the last time I rated a book so low. Normally, even if I don’t mesh well with a book there is always some kind of a redeeming factor in it that leaves me saying “But, at least there was this….”. You know, something that made it understandable as to why it was enjoyed and loved by so many others. When I turned the last page I was utterly baffled as to what I just read.

Even those “controversial” scenes that everyone had a massive issue with are short, and far less descriptive than people let on.  Though I can see why maybe some schools would ban it, not saying I agree – I’m just saying I see how it could happen.

The AFTER section is all about finding answers. Answers that never come. And like some generic fortune cookie you’re delivered this kind of “Not knowing is sometimes better” line, which just leaves you feeling ripped off.

If you’ve read LFA, what was your final thoughts on it?

Not only am I a huge fan of her books (who else is dying to read THE TREATMENT!?) but, because she needed a bookmark design for THE PROGRAM last year, I found my love for design again and since have worked with almost 100 authors to make their swag!

But that’s not why you’re here – check out her list! I don’t know about you, but I’d like to know what concert was worth a U-haul ride in #6, I want to know how I can read what she mentions in #14 – seriously, I’ll buy shoes, candy corn, ponies! Just tell me, I’ll do it so I can read it!

Drop a note in the comments to Suzanne, maybe she’ll stop buy and elaborate more! You know know!
