Get Even
Don't Get Mad #1
Author Gretchen McNeil
Release Date: September 16th, 2014
Publisher: Balzer+Bray
Rating: 5 Birds

The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars in Gretchen McNeil’s witty and suspenseful novel about four disparate girls who join forces to take revenge on high school bullies and create dangerous enemies for themselves in the process.
Bree, Olivia, Kitty, and Margot have nothing in common—at least that’s what they’d like the students and administrators of their elite private school to think. The girls have different goals, different friends, and different lives, but they share one very big secret: They’re all members of Don’t Get Mad, a secret society that anonymously takes revenge on the school’s bullies, mean girls, and tyrannical teachers.
When their latest target ends up dead with a blood-soaked “DGM” card in his hands, the girls realize that they’re not as anonymous as they thought—and that someone now wants revenge on them. Soon the clues are piling up, the police are closing in . . . and everyone has something to lose.

Holy. Crap.

More. This is the word you will be thinking when you turn the last page of GET EVEN. It won't be a simple desire, a casual want. It will be a life or death, desperate need for it. You will think of nothing else but GET EVEN for days. I can tell you this from experience.

I know – you're likely wondering why it is I am focusing my review on the end of a book and not everything that comes before it. Don't get me wrong – everything that comes before it is the reason why the one thing I can't stop thinking about is the ending.

High School hierarchies, mystery, dead bodies, secrets and blood. Lots of blood. Gretchen McNeil will hook you on chapter one and pull you along right until the last page where she will leave you. Needing more.

GET EVEN is filled with unbelievably spot-on characters. From the DGM girls themselves, to school Queen B(itch) Amber Stevens, right down to Ed The Head. You know Ed, every school had one. The kid who could get you anything you needed, tests answers, contraband snacks and always had all the info on everything going on.

As I reached the ending of the book I was so excited for all my questions to be answered. While I didn't want it to be over, I needed answers. And I got some. But what I got more than anything was the desperate need for the next book. The cool thing about this is – you don't have to do that "Well, I'm not going to read it until both are out" thing, because Gretchen has you covered. Pre-Order GET EVEN from one of the participating Indie Bookstores (most will ship to you) and get a booklet with the first 2 chapters of GET DIRTY in it. It's been promised that a HUGE twist is in that booklet!
