Maise O’Malley just turned eighteen, but she’s felt like a grown-up her entire life. The summer before senior year, she has plans: get into a great film school, convince her mom to go into rehab, and absolutely do not, under any circumstances, screw up her own future.
But life has a way of throwing her plans into free-fall.
When Maise meets Evan at a carnival one night, their chemistry is immediate, intense, and short-lived. Which is exactly how she likes it: no strings. But afterward, she can’t get Evan out of her head. He’s taught her that a hookup can be something more. It can be an unexpected connection with someone who truly understands her. Someone who sees beyond her bravado to the scared but strong girl inside.
That someone turns out to be her new film class teacher, Mr. Evan Wilke.
Maise and Evan resolve to keep their hands off each other, but the attraction is too much to bear. Together, they’re real and genuine; apart, they’re just actors playing their parts for everyone else. And their masks are slipping. People start to notice. Rumors fly. When the truth comes to light in a shocking way, they may learn they were just playing parts for each other, too.
Smart, sexy, and provocative, Unteachable is about what happens when a love story goes off-script.

Dear Leah Raeder,

Thank you for writing a ridiculously dirty-hot, complex and magically worded New Adult book with a cover that allowed me to read it in the pick-up lane at school.
Sincerely – That Mom In The Mini Van

The first thing that captured me about UNTEACHABLE was the writing style. It's beautiful, it's magical, it's lyrical. Raeder posses the ability to tell you things in 2-3 words that most writers would take up 2-3 paragraphs to achieve. It's blunt, not sugar coated in any way and on top of all that, witty and hilarious. I mean, come on, we're talking about a book that drops the F-bomb in the first sentence and has you hot and bothered within a chapter…there's no waiting around with UNTEACHABLE.

Maise O'Malley (pronounced Maze) is strong and self-reliant and the kind of protagonist that I enjoy reading. Sure, she has her issues – who doesn't? But she's not whiney and in need of someone else to propell her life in the right direction. She's her own compass and her own navigator and she will not change that for anyone or anything.

One of Maise's issues is that she has a thing for older man. It's perfectly explained in the book and she's aware of it and that maybe it's not the best thing to have but it's there, and she embraces it. When she meets a man in his 30's (to her own 18 – but she lied and told him she was 21) at a carnival one night she makes sure it's just a one night thing, like all the others. Shock and awe when she shows up to the first day of school a few days later to find him as her new film studies teacher.

Dun, dun DUUUNNNNN!

Enough secrecy surrounds Mr. Evan Wilke that you will assume all the basic things are really going on in his life behind-the-scenes. You won't be prepared for the truth or for the fact that the whole book is written in a manner that you won't find the teacher/student relationship that grows, weird at all. And let's be honest, most everyone at some point in their life has had that fantasy – the person in charge and the subordinate. I see you bushing, you know I'm right!

As the book free falls to the last page, there will be heartbreak and more honesty in words than I have read in a long time.  You'll cheer, and cry and beg – and you will simply want to flip the book back to page one and relive every moment between Maise and Evan as soon as the last page is done.

The only negative thing I can say about this book, is that I am 1000% aggravated with myself it took me until now to find it and read it. Raeder is on my radar now, and I will read and buy anything she publishes from this day forward!
