When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

I imagine that Colleen Hoover sits in her writer hideout, wringing her hands together and maniacally laughing as she crafts each heart-wrenching paragraph. I also believe that she survives solely on the tears and anguish of her readers. If the latter is true, she's set for about the next 5 years just from me alone. You're welcome Colleen.

She's done it again, my friends. And to be honest I didn't think she was ever going to write something I loved more than MAYBE SOMEDAY, but I was book hung over for 2 full days after UGLY LOVE.

All in all, the arrangement between Tate and Miles is a simple one. At least that's the exactly how Tate feels about it when she agrees to it. No time or desire to put the work into a relationship, so friends with benefits it is – what could possibly go wrong with that? The question is, can you give yourself physically to someone with out also giving yourself to them emotionally? Tate wavers back and forth, the pain of leaving the arrangement is too much for her, but she's not entirely sure she can survive staying if she can't have all of Miles.

Miles is complex and beautiful. The secrets of his past are so jaw-dropping and so far past heart breaking that when I read it, I dropped the book. Not even kidding. Of course I then promptly snapped it up off the ground, and tried to focus through my tears.

Love isn't always roses, love notes and happy moments. Sometimes it's ugly, brutal and it makes you desperate and question everything. Love can tear you down as much as it can build you up – and Colleen Hoover hits every emotion, even the smallest one – right on the head. Repeatedly. Go in with kleenex near by and at least 4-5 hours to devote to it. Once you pick it up you are not going to want to put it down until you are done.

  1. Oh dear. I just listened to Maybe Someday on audio and I didn't want to get out of my car each time to walk into work each morning. The book was so engrossing I had to buy a physical copy as well so I can reread parts of it. That book tore my freakin' heart out and now you are telling me this is worse than that! My heart can't take it. However, this book comes out on my b-day and at my work we get our b-days as a paid holiday so maybe I'll spend some of my wages on this and gobble it all up in one day.
    Thanks for the awesome review!
