About The Book

Hexed #1
Author: Michelle Krys
Release Date: June 10th, 2014
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Rating: 4.5 Birds

If high school is all about social status, Indigo Blackwood has it made. Sure, her quirky mom owns an occult shop, and a nerd just won’t stop trying to be her friend, but Indie is a popular cheerleader with a football-star boyfriend and a social circle powerful enough to ruin everyone at school. Who wouldn’t want to be her?
Then a guy dies right before her eyes. And the dusty old family Bible her mom is freakishly possessive of is stolen. But it’s when a frustratingly sexy stranger named Bishop enters Indie’s world that she learns her destiny involves a lot more than pom-poms and parties. If she doesn’t get the Bible back, every witch on the planet will die. And that’s seriously bad news for Indie, because according to Bishop, she’s a witch too.
Suddenly forced into a centuries-old war between witches and sorcerers, Indie’s about to uncover the many dark truths about her life—and a future unlike any she ever imagined on top of the cheer pyramid.

My Review

Funny story. I don't really like witch books.

So why did I pick up HEXED if I don't really like witch books? Well, I was privileged enough to make Michelle's swag and after working with the cover and book info for several weeks - something told me this book would be different. Man was I was right!

Michelle Krys' HEXED will make you feel like you're reading a witch book for the very first time, no matter how many you've read in the past. It's like....magic. (*groan* Bad pun...I know!)

From the very first page, I was hooked on the story of Indigo, her quirky mother and crazy, party-animal aunt.

Indigo is the typical popular teen, written so spot-on but with out being the annoying, whiney protagonist. A welcome change from a lot of the almost-heroines of the books I've read the past few weeks. Indigo is actually written so well, I'm beginning to think either Michelle Kry's teen years were less than 3 years ago OR she held a teen captive in her basement for the duration of writing the novel.

Indigo's exasperation with her mothers store, The Black Cat and her desire to be an actual witch (something as far as Indigo is concerned, does not actually exist - and her mom is just a head case whose hobby has gone too far.) is beautiful. I could see every eye roll, hear every exasperated sigh, and even smell the incense each time Indigo had to stop at the shop or speak to her mom. Don't get me wrong, she loves her mom, but she's just a little embarrassed by her and her eccentric ways. What 16-17 year old girl isn't? Your mom likely just wore those jeans with the elastic backs or refused to change her 80's bangs - and you were embarrassed by her for that. Step into Indigo's shoes and imagine how she felt...

When the action kicks, and Bishop drops in (Hey Michelle, see what I did there!?  *wink*) the whole book gets turned upside down. This boy is HOT with emphasis on the DAY-UM! He's that perfectly not-perfect, tattooed, leather wearing, snark throwing, book boy that easily lands on the Book Boyfriend list and takes out the current #1 with out breaking a sweat.

Put together the non-believer with the hot boy, sprinkle in some fight scenes, a couple of goons and a missing Witch's Bible and what do you get? The best witch book you'll ever read!
