Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a remarkable actor who appeared in dozens and dozens of movies. For us, here in the book world we will remember him best as playing Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games franchise.

According the E! Hoffman was found deceased this morning (Feb 2nd 2014) in his New York apartment. No further information has been released, they are still investigating.

No word on what the franchise will do, as Mockingjay Part 2 is still listed on IMdB as “Filming”

RIP Phillip – thank you for helping to bring to life one of the Book Worlds favorite series!

  1. What a memorable clip from Catching Fire to post about him. I was shocked to see this today as well. RIP.

  2. Still so sad about this. What a loss to the world, truly. Addiction is a terrible thing. I feel terrible for his family.

  3. I've read he was sober for 23 years and started using again in May 2013. It's so sad how addiction can affect someone even if they stay sober for a long time. He was a great actor and loved by many. He'll be missed.
