about the book

When both men claim to be her soul mate and tell her about an unbelievable past, Evie learns that she s not the person she thought she was. About Angela Corbett
As a child, Angela Corbett’s most prized possession was a set of read-along books. She used to follow along with the narrator on the stereo and dream of when she would be able to read by herself. Her childhood reading habit led her to consider her future career. However, after consulting with her parents, she realized she had already exceeded hobbit height and since fairies and dragonslayers were tricky jobs to get, she decided she wanted to create worlds of her own. She started writing poetry in elementary school and worked as a journalist in high school and college, but could never leave her love for writing fiction behind. She is a graduate of Westminster College where she double majored in communication and sociology. She has worked as a journalist, freelance writer, and director of communications and marketing. She loves classic cars, traveling, and escaping in a good book. She lives in Utah with her incredibly supportive husband and their five-pound Pomeranian, Pippin, whose following of fangirls could rival Justin Bieber's. Eternal Starling is her debut novel and the first book in the Emblem of Eternity trilogy.

{This or That} with Kendare Blake

about the book

The Goddess War begins in Antigoddess, the first installment of the new series by acclaimed author of Anna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake.

Old Gods never die…

Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.

Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.

These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.

Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.

Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.

The Goddess War is about to begin.

You can purchase Antigoddess at the following Retailers:

Paris or Venice Paris! Because I haven’t been to Venice, so it’s the safer answer.

Deodorant or Perfume Deodorant! Because some are like perfumes. And I like Old Spice Wolfthorn.

Winter or Summer Summer. Winter involves snow driving, which I do not enjoy.

Vampire Diaries or Twilight Twilight! Big, Iditarod quality wolves, for the win!

Angels or Demons Demons. I don’t know why.

Fall or Spring Spring, because it is the farthest away from snow driving.

Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter Harry Potter. No wait, Legolas. Is that an option?

Ice Cream or Sorbet Ice cream. What the fuck is sorbet? I thought it was called sherbet.

Coke or Pepsi Coke. Diet coke.

Cabin in the woods or Condo on the Beach Is it the cabin in the woods like the Joss Whedon movie? Because then Cabin in the woods.

Kisses or Hugs From who? Seriously. Kisses from cats, hugs from dogs.

Cash or Card Card. Who am I, Brad Pitt?

Print or Ebook Print.

Voice or Text Voice.

Batman or Superman Batman. Perhaps not Bat-fleck. But Batman. The entire reason the Justice League exists is to prove he can kick Superman’s ass.

Wheat or White Little of both.

Romance or Passion Are they fragrances? I’d rather be passionate about doing something, than romantic about it.

Night or Day Night. Not sure why. Owls, maybe? Better chance of seeing Batman?

Kendare Blake is an import from South Korea who was raised in the United States by caucasian parents. You know, that old chestnut. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Ithaca College and a Master’s degree in Writing from Middlesex University in London. She brakes for animals, the largest of which was a deer, which sadly didn’t make it, and the smallest of which was a mouse, which did, but it took forever. Amongst her likes are Greek Mythology, rare red meat and veganism. She also enjoys girls who can think with the boys like Ayn Rand, and boys who scare the morality into people, like Bret Easton Ellis.

Paradise quickly gets gruesome in this thrilling page-turner with a plot that’s ripped from the headlines and a twist that defies the imagination.

It’s Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off to a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives.

But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations. As Anna sets out to find her friend’s killer, she discovers harsh revelations about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.

Awaiting the judge’s decree, it becomes clear to Anna that everyone around her thinks she is not only guilty, but also dangerous. And when the whole story comes out, reality is more shocking than anyone ever imagined…

Pick up Dangerous Girls are these retailers:

“Abigail Haas does a magnificent job of the slow reveal, pulling you in and holding you captive until the very last word. “

To fully explain to you what I thought of this book, I think I should explain to you my reaction when I finished it. It went a little like this:

I was at my cabin, on vacation. It was evening and I had been reading for the better part of the day (Yea..this book will do that to you, do not pick it up unless you are ready to commit because it will haunt you if you so much as try to use the bathroom) I was on the patio with a few other family members who were also reading. It was quiet, except for the waves on the beach out the window and the occasional fish jumping, mocking my husband who had just come in from a night of fishing.

I turned the last page of the book and:

Seriously. I closed the book and began talking in one worded questions. To myself. “I? How? Why? Seriously? But?” you get the point. This drew the attention of my Uncle, cousin and sister. I got blank, blinking stares (this is common in my family…it’s the normal look I get). I immediately stood up and thrust the book into my cousins arms and demand she start reading NOW because if I didn’t have someone to talk to about it in the next few hours I was going to go mad. You guys, this book. I can’t even. It’s the most amazing YA crime/murder mystery I think I have ever read. The best part is you are seeing it from Anna, the accused's, perspective. You will see everything play out first hand, like it happening to you.

Haas grabs us knowing the our obsession with crime stories, and court TV. How much we love seeing the horrible played out as long as it’s happening to someone other than our self, and sinking her claws into us knowing how we love to make our judgments about who is guilty and not guilty. Every single one of those items into play in DANGEROUS GIRLS.  We will see  how  the media twists things and makes it look like something is one way when really it’s another. We will be privy to what would normally be private conversations between client and lawyer, hear sides of the story that never made it to court and follow along with the detectives, hell bent on putting Anna away for good, even with no real evidence. Oh, and hey, don’t worry, never once will any legal talk be anything other than totally understandable, or overwhelming. For it’s heft in mystery, it’s still a really light read in that you don’t need a legal degree to make it through. I know that this might be a little bit of a concern for some so I want to get it out of the way. I want nothing to stop you from borrowing or buying this book!

Abigail Haas does a magnificent job of the slow reveal, pulling you in and holding you captive until the very last word. I can’t wait to read DANGEROUS GIRLS again so I can pay closer attention, see if I missed anything that would have helped me piece it together before the end. I feel almost silly not having figured it out before hand because it’s something I can always do. I always know. Finally someone has given me a real mystery, so twisted and real that I didn’t have time to figure it out before I turned that last page.

Well, what are you doing here – go get a copy!

{Y’all Fest Author Interview} Veronica Roth

By: Me My Shelf And I | 27 September 2013 at 11:09 AM | | | 1 Comment so far

about the book

One choice will define you.
What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.
But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.
Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

Amity_getup-01What is the hardest line to write- the first or the last?

Yeah, those. And all the ones in between!

Best writing tip you ever received?

$5. Just kidding. Um… tip… I think it’s probably to allow yourself to suck when writing early drafts. It takes away a lot of the fear of generating good material. It’s not easy to be creative when you’re judging your work.

Tell us 5 random facts about yourself.

1. In the past year, I discovered a deep love of Brussel sprouts

2. I talk to myself. Heck. Sometimes I argue with myself.

3. I’m arguing with myself about including that last point at this very moment.

4. My favorite animals are elephants.

5. Dresses with pockets make me happy.

Where's your favorite place to write?

I usually work in my home office, but I love working in hotel rooms. No distractions!

What are you working on now?

Something I’m very excited about! Can’t divulge any details yet, but it’s an idea I’ve been mulling over for years.
