A Beautiful Wedding: A Novella
Beautiful 2.5
Author: Jamie McGuire
Pages: 160
Release Date: December 10th, 2013
Publisher: Atria Books
Rating: 5+ Birds

You know that Abby Abernathy unexpectedly became Mrs. Maddox. But what do you really know?
Why did Abby pop the question?
What secrets were shared before the ceremony?
Where did they spend their wedding night?
Who else knew about it . . . and didn’t tell?
Everything about Abby and Travis’s elopement was top-secret . . . until now. Fans of Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster will get all of their questions answered in this whirlwind tale of the wedding day (and night!)—and as with all good stories, this one will definitely have been worth the wait.

When my good friends at Atria sent me this book, I was given only one rule: If I was to review it before the release date: NO SPOILERS.

Now, you know me, I’m not the spoilery kind of gal. Hell, sometimes I don’t even read the full synopsis to avoid “spoilers” (don’t judge me!). But seriously, I want to scream from the rooftops about this book. This little slice of time in the Beautiful series none of us knew about, only speculated about.

I whipped through the 160 pages in about an hour, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Although some pages I read reaaallly slowly. A few times in a row. Like for instance: The wedding night. Oh yea. *bom chikka bow wow*

The Cover:

It is beautiful and full of shimmer. Very suitable for the Vegas theme. The inside covers of the actual book are printed with a beautiful blue water color look and of course, the butterfly! That butterfly, it’s on the actual cover too – you just have to look for it. Also, teaser – it comes into play in the actual book as well….

The Story:

The trouble with novellas is, they are novellas and are by definition short stories. I will never get enough of Travis and Abby and Travis. Did I say I Travis twice? Not sorry.

Told in duel points of view, between Abby and Travis, I love that this tale doesn’t start in Vegas, but on the day before. The insights to things like the fire that happened at the fight, and thoughts and reasons behind the marriage come out and it’s unbelievable. Literally, not what I would have thought, but makes total sense and really helps you better understand Abby, Travis and their dynamic even more. Anyone who’s read BEAUTIFUL DISASTER and had trouble understanding and accepting their crazy, whirlwind, not typical relationship would do well to read A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING. It just might clear some things up for them.

I adore that Abby and Travis are young, but not young, all at the same time.  They know what they are about to do is nuts, it’s crazy at their age. Are there doubts? Sure, at 19 who wouldn't have them? Who has them? Not telling you – but you might be surprised when you find out for yourself. They both know this isn’t a simple thing, marriage rarely is. They know right away, that the future is not going to be easy, in fact they are ready for a knock down fight, scraping and clawing to make ends meet from day one. They don’t have their heads in the clouds about some magical life they will have where everything will come easy. This isn’t after all, a fairy tale. Best part – they have known this all along as is evident by the first 2 books in the series.

Most loved, is this novella doesn’t end in Vegas. This short story is so very much more than just the wedding, it’s extends past it yet centers around it. It’s an part of this series that you would be a fool not to read the first chance you get!

All in all, A BEAUTIFUL WEDDING is in fact, a beautiful wedding. The roller coaster of emotions you will experience are not to different from attending a real one. There's nerves, tears of joy and happiness. You will laugh and cheer, but also be scared and worry. A pure adrenalin rush. Jamie McGuire has a phenomenal way of bringing the emotions of her characters to life so extraordinarily you can’t help but experience them as if they were happening to you!

A BEAUTIFUL addition to my Jamie McGuire collection and the Beautiful series. A must have for any fan of Travis & Abby. And Travis. (still not sorry.)

Things To Watch For:

  • The vows! OMG!
  • The song Abby walks down the aisle to. *SWOON*
  • Who knew about the wedding?
  • The hilarious autocorrect mishap!
  • The words: “Ten pounds of body glitter” because seriously, LMFAO!
  • What Travis gives Abby on their wedding day that’s not totally from him. (Tip: have tissue ready)
  • Find the butterfly in the story!
