The Goddess War begins in Antigoddess, the first installment of the new series by acclaimed author of Anna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake.

Old Gods never die…

Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.

Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.

These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.

Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.

Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.

The Goddess War is about to begin.

I have been a big fan of Kendare Blake’s writing since her first book hit the shelves. She wrote my kind of books, full of mystery, and blood and ghosts. So, while I was really excited to read ANTIGODESS I was a little apprehensive. I like the whole retelling of Gods and Goddess’ – but I felt like the whole genre had been done to death already.

Why do I ever doubt, seriously – why do I do it. Kendare Blake took her twisted imagination and dropped it right in the middle of a war for survival between the ancient Gods and Goddess’.

What happens when you take all the gods and goddess’ that we have been told over and over again, can’t die – and make them a lot more fragile. Put them all in a state where they are dying in fact. What happens then? Well you have one hell of a kick ass story premise that’s for sure! Now they aren’t fighting each other for power, which is what I’m used to reading about in some fashion whenever the “Ancients” are involved. Now they are human almost, fighting to live, just to stay alive, but having to fight each other yet to do that.

Athena is slowly becoming a down comforter as owl feathers fill her form the inside one by one. Hermes is starving to death, no matter how much he eats. Come on! Talk about creative ways to go – you’ve never seen anything like this in YA! I promise!

Weaving in and out of this story of Athena and Hermes and their fight to live, you meet Cassandra. At first you think she’s just a silly human, simple and unnecessary – but quickly you learn who she really is and how she plays a HUGE role in all this. Like Kendare Blake is amazing at she takes something that looks innocent and simple and makes it complicated, interesting and needed with in seconds.

I can not wait for the second book in this series to come out! I highly recommend it!!

Kendare Blake is an import from South Korea who was raised in the United States by caucasian parents. You know, that old chestnut. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Ithaca College and a Master’s degree in Writing from Middlesex University in London. She brakes for animals, the largest of which was a deer, which sadly didn’t make it, and the smallest of which was a mouse, which did, but it took forever. Amongst her likes are Greek Mythology, rare red meat and veganism. She also enjoys girls who can think with the boys like Ayn Rand, and boys who scare the morality into people, like Bret Easton Ellis.
