In a city full of vampires, trouble never sleeps.

At the tender age of twenty-seven, Merit became a sword-wielding vampire. Since then, she’s become the protector of her House, watched Chicago nearly burn to the ground, and seen her Master fall and rise. Now she’ll see her mettle—and her metal—tested like never before.

It started with two . . . Two rogues vanishing without a trace. Someone is targeting Chicago’s vampires, and anyone could be next. With their house in peril, Merit and her Master, the centuries-old Ethan Sullivan, must race to stop the disappearances. But as they untangle a web of secret alliances and ancient evils, they realize their foe is more familiar, and more powerful, than they could have ever imagined.

HOUSE RULES is a major turning point in the series. After the ending of BITING COLD, readers knew that changes would be coming to the house. The major change, of course, is Cadogan House leaving the GP. BUT it wouldn’t be Cadogan House if the transition went smoothly, now would it?

I always find writing reviews for Chicagoland Vampires book difficult because I feel like every review is the same, not because every book is the same but because every book is just as good as the last. The things you love about the series are present in every book. So yeah, I sometimes feel like a broken record. But at the risk of sounding like a broken record….here we go again…

As with every book, there’s a mystery. Something is going on and it’s up to Merit and Company to solve it. This week’s mystery? Who’s killing the vampires? With all of the obvious choices accounted for, who could it be?

Merit and Ethan’s relationship is one that I never tire of. Their relationship does have a little hiccup with the presence of Ethan’s ex, Lacey and Merit’s decision to join the Red Guard. Both Ethan and Merit struggle with being confident in what they have. Both have some insecurities in their relationship that they have to work through in HOUSE RULES.

I loved the action, suspense, and ever-present wit. Neill put together another great book and I can’t wait to continue the series. I do have one request though…can we have more Jonah? I kind of love him!

*** Please note that House Rules is an adult book and contains more mature content.
