Using a simple doodle as a starting point, 18 artists take you on an inspirational, crafty journey! Filled with inventive prompts designed to fuel the imagination, these 75 exercises motivate crafters to pick up a pencil, brush, or marker, and explore their artistic voice. From quick “try it” ideas using shapes and patterns to doodled portraits and contour drawings, these step-by-step projects are wild creative fun. The featured artists include Cori Dantini, who provides a “Recipe for a Face”; Flora Chang with innovative watercolor designs; and Teesha Moore who offers ideas for adding personality to doodled characters.

If you are anything like me, you love to doodle, but likely doodle the same thing over and over. For me, it’s clouds. I put them around words, in the margin of my note book. ALWAYS clouds. it’s not that I don’t know anything else I could draw, it’s just that I pretty much stink at drawing anything else, or I simply don’t know where to begin when it comes to drawing.

Because of all this when I was approached and asked to review CRAFT-A-DOODLE 75 Creative Exercises by 18 Artists, with prompt that it would help me doodle better – I took the chance!! This beautifully illustrated book shows you step by step how to draw everything from pretty gowns on mannequins to owls and it doesn’t just do this using paper as your medium, oh no! It helps you take your doodling to a whole new level by introducing you to new places to doodle, like on rocks for decoration in a garden!

Things I never knew I could doodle, I now can and I love it!!!

I brought my kids in on things here too – my 9 year old literally high-jacked this book from me for hours while at our cabin a week or 2 back, spending hours perfecting her owls and putting them all over the house! It helped both her and I learn that doodling should be fun and doesn’t have to be perfect!

This book is perfect for doodlers of all ages and doodlers who don’t yet know they are doodlers! Easy enough for a 9 year old to understand and follow the directions of, this is a perfect gift for anyone! I’m so happy to have a copy and will definitely be adding it to my holiday shopping list for the crafty folks in my family!!!

Check out 9 getting a post swim doodle date in!!!
