Leigh Fallon’s Shadow of the Mark, the sequel to Carrier of the Mark, is a captivating love story set against the lush backdrop of Ireland.
Megan knew she was destined to be with Adam from the first moment she saw him and now they are determined to be together. But Megan and Adam are Marked Ones, and a romance between two Marked Ones is strictly forbidden…and could cause worldwide devastation.

Who isn’t waiting on bated breath for this book? I ripped through it in about 4.5 hours giving my husband directions to feed the kids and take them outside when I needed to finish it. Nothing is worse than having to to read in the day and then when the end is upon you, you have to put the book down.

Let me tell you something, this book was worth the almost 2 years I waited to read it. Fallon amps up the mystery, drama, romance and action in SHADOW OF THE MARK! To think that the week her last round of edits were due she suffered in the hurricane and sat in her neighbors garage, typing while hooked up to their generator!

The story of Adam and Megan is heartbreaking and heart-stopping. The star-crossed lovers who are destined to be together but can not, is not new, we all know that. But the incredible way Fallon weaves her story will leave you feeling breathless and begging for more. Everyone wants to root for the underdogs, for them to find that one thing that will allow them to break a curse keeping them from what they really want and need, each other. I never tire of these kids of stories.

There were a few moments that felt familiar to me. Yet with Fallon’s incredible attention to detail, they were not the “familiar” that you might find annoying and toss out comparisons to other novels previously written, just familiar. Again, when you read as much as I do it is really difficult not to see a similar theme in things, especially when a love story is involved. There is only so much one can do with it – and I think Leigh Fallon for her unfaltering dedication to the mythology she puts behind hers, making her mark…if you will. (well, that was a bad pun….)

I really enjoyed watching the powers of each of the characters develop and grow through out. The few times I had to put SHADOW OF THE MARK down I found myself wishing I could control an element.

Speaking of, if you could control one of the elements, which would you choose? I think I would choose air. I imagine then I could fly a bit and even though I hate airplanes, flying on my own accord would be amazing.

I am currently back to waiting, as we do, for the next book AGE OF THE FIFTH due out next year. The ending of SHADOW left me jaw agape, heart pounding and DYING for more! Sadly, even knowing Leigh’s weakness for a Flake candy bar and my willingness to buy her the whole stinking company that makes them won’t get me any closer to the dramatic conclusion of this beautiful written series!

  1. You can tell they put a lot of effort into this cover. I mean, just look at how different it is from the first cover! They changed her dress' train, changed the sky and even tilted the model's body! *phew* I don't know how you cover designers do it. Really.
