Violet thought she’d made peace with her unique ability to sense the echoes of the dead and the imprints that cling to their killers…that is until she acquired an imprint of her own. Forced to carry a reminder of the horrible events of her kidnapping, Violet is more determined than ever to lead a normal life. However, the people who run the special investigative team Violet works for have no intention of letting her go.
When someone close to Violet becomes a suspect in a horrific murder, she finds herself pulled into a deadly hunt for a madman with an army of devoted followers. Violet has survived dangerous situations before, but she quickly discovers that protecting those closest to her is far more difficult than protecting herself.

Review May Contain Spoilers!

I’m approaching this review a little differently than my others. Firstly you will notice that I mention it might have some spoilers – that could mean about the books prior or this book, so read at your own risk.

Second, each time I run over the points in my head that I want to make I just keep making a giant list, and seem to be talking directly to the author Kimberly Derting – so that is the format you’re going to get this review in. A list for Kim. Since I’ve been writing (or trying to) write my own book for some time now, I have learned not to argue with what comes to you – it’s there’s always a reason for it. So, here we go.

- The epilogue. What the actual heck Kim? Talk about a cliff hanger right at the beginning of the book! I mean, well played and all, but at the same time, geeze!!! I didn’t get to read much the first time I sat down, so I had THAT left in my head for a whole day til I could read again.

- Rafe. Sweet hell just let him and Violet hook up. Please. I will seriously pay you. I was all about Jay, I really was – but once Rafe was introduced I realized how much of a whiney kid Jay can be, and frankly even with some  scenes in DEAD SILENCE that may redeem him slightly from the overprotective, parent-like figure in Violet’s life – still..Rafe. Think about it. And remember if you go there Kim, my last name is S-W-E-E-N-E-Y, you know so you can credit me all proper like in the acknowledgements. *wink* *lol*

- Now, about Chelsea – why doesn’t she ever shut up? She annoys the snot out of me. Every time she opened her mouth, I just wanted to shake her and hope all the childish comments came out and would be done with finally. When I read the epilogue I didn’t bat an eyelash at her role in it – I was seriously only concerned for Violet and the 2nd-story-window-jumping-team. And I realize the story wouldn’t really work with out her in it, but man…she’s a handful. Er, earful?

- Plot Twist CityDEAD SILENCE had a lot of action, a lot of new information and clearly will not be the last book in this series. I won’t even listen to you if you tell me it is, there’s a reason my kids mastered the fingers-in-ears-la-la-la-la move…If you end this series on this book you were clearly sent straight form the bowels of hell to torture us, and since I’ve chatted with you numerous times, once in person…I know that’s not (entirely) true. Hey! Every author needs a little evil, how do you think those cliff hangers come about?

- Violet. I am goofy happy about the bad ass she is becoming. (even more evidence that Jay is NOT the guy for her?) I give her the highest of fives for being able to suffer through her echo. I can’t even take my kids making the same noise for 40 seconds with out developing a massive eye twitch, she’s my hero at this point.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed DEAD SILENCE and commend you on your ability to keep a series running, and running WELL into a fourth book. I am very curious about where this series is headed, wondering how long it will last, how long can you make it go before there’s no material left? (again, shut up – I can’t hear you when you tell me it’s over…I don’t believe yoooouuu! Let me live in my world of denial. I’m happy here.)

I will follow Violet into each of her mysteries, and I suggest that anyone who has not yet met Violet and learned about her abilities, grab a copy of The Body Finder and start on a new journey!
