In The Boyfriend App by Katie Sise, super-smart, somewhat geeky Audrey McCarthy can’t wait to get out of high school. Her father’s death and the transformation of her one-time BFF, Blake Dawkins, into her worst nightmare have her longing for the new start college will bring.

But college takes money. So Audrey decides she has to win the competition for the best app designed by a high schooler—and the $200,000 that comes with it. She develops something she calls the Boyfriend App, and suddenly she’s the talk of the school and getting kissed by the hottest boys around. But can the Boyfriend App bring Audrey true love?

I admit the cover caught my eye immediately!! Once I read the excerpt, I knew I had to read this book. The main character Audrey is an outcast. Once I learned of her story of why she was an outcast, I would have gotten her back if I was her friend. She has quite a story to tell on this matter. If being an outcast was bad enough, her used to be best friend is now her enemy, Blake keeps giving her a hard time no matter what. Once upon a time Blake and Audrey were friends but something happened. You'll have to read to find out why.

Meanwhile Audrey is only with her mom since her father died. Audrey begins to think of college and how is she going to be able to go? Her mother works at the school cafe. With those thoughts swirl around in her head of worrying and wondering, one day her dreams are answered! It is announced that there is a competition for the best app to be designed and win a nice amount of money. Audrey jumps at the chance! I loved how Audrey racks her brain to figure out what her app would be and how she would code it, what the main goal would be and how it would appeal to buyers. While she comes up with the app, my brain began to think of my husband who is a computer geek and just thought he would get a kick out of this book. I knew some of the basics of what Audrey was talking about in the matters of hacking. Once the word hacking showed up in the book, I thought of the movie "Hackers" which is one of my favorite movies.

Anyways, Audrey comes up with the Boyfriend App! She gets the app going slowly, as one by one it began to catch to the wind! Once it was on the move, she began to become the talk of the school for better and worse! Things were getting to be so awesome until a flaw hits her design. She also gets thrown into the world of business corruption as well where she is very quick on her feet! I loved how Audrey learns of many things throughout this book and always remembers her dad's advice.

This book is a fun, cute and quick read filled with high school drama and the awkwardness of being in high school as well. There is a touch of romance in the book as well which I thought was integrated nicely! Each character grew on me quite a bit. I liked Audrey along with her group of friends. Each of her friends had quite unique aspects to themselves and were totally believable characters which made the story great.

This book is just a wonderful little gem. It captures the emotions of friendship, family, high school drama, and romance. I think you should go get it today!

  1. I really like the cover too!!

Does this story have a happily ever romance in it or is it just about Audrey and her adventure? I'm a totally sucker for those HEAs!

  2. I really loved this one! Audrey was awkward and smart and I just adored her. I loved that she was a strong but flawed female lead. I think a lot of people will love this one!
    Great review!

  3. The cover is so pretty! Very intrigued by it now! Great review. =)

  4. I need a fun, cute, and quick read! I love those type of books. Thanks for the great review. I can't wait to read this one.

  5. Like I said before, if you want a contemporary romance of completely believable, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. If you're looking for a crazy, cute ride that's more scifi then it appears, then GIVE THIS A GO. This is a super fast and fun read that might be the perfect option if you're looking for a little mind candy to amuse you for a while.
