I am so late to the Pi party. To be honest, when the movie was first being advertised I was a bit “meh”. Don’t get me wrong, It looked visually stunning, even in the previews, but still I wasn’t running to watch it.
Now, I feel like a total idiot and CAN NOT believe I missed the opportunity to see it on a big screen. Life of Pi was so much more than I thought it was going to be. Visually stunning and perfectly translated from book to screen (if I do say so myself) there’s nothing about this movie that you won’t enjoy.
Heartbreaking, but heartwarming at the same time, you will be on the edge of your seat and near tears during the course of this movie. My almost-nine-year-old is begging me to watch it, but she’s a sensitive kid and the amount of death, both human and animal, in this movie would probably make her cry for days. I wouldn't call this a family movie, if you have very young kids – it might scare them off zoos and boat rides for life, but all kids a different and that’s just what I would level it at in my home.
The ending, which I won’t giveaway so don’t worry, had a surprising twist that shocked me and I certainly didn’t see coming. I would suggest this for a date movie because you have the action for the guys and the emotional story line for the woman. Total win/win!
Have you seen it? Read the book? How did you feel about the adaptation?
