On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.
A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.
She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.
Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.
Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.
Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

This book is way too short. I think the author perhaps wanted to get her feet wet and see how she would be reviewed. It could also be that this dbook is self-published and a shorter book is easier. Either way it is too short, and since I read fairly fast it was over before it started.

Despite its short comings (pun intended) I enjoyed reading it. There is obviously a love dynamic which refreshingly wasn’t juvenile like others I have read. Yes the Sophia is only seventeen but I honestly forgot that she was when I was reading.

This story is intense from the beginning much more so than other YA I have read. The setting of the Blood Shade was intriguing and so complex if a little unrealistic. None of that was a huge distraction from the story though. Really anything that usually gets on my nerves with stories this one either didn’t have or it didn’t matter.

A SHADE VAMPIRE isn’t listed as a series on some sites but going to www.forrestbooks.com lets you input an email address so that you can get email updates and a second book due out this summer is mentioned, although a title has not been released. I look forward to the next book and hope that it is as intriguing as this one.
