Fifteen year-old Jonah Levine is practically invisible at Applecrest High. His Facebook page is pathetic, his baseball skills are mediocre at best, and his IQ seems to drop 50 points when talking to girls. But everything changes when his rock band, Hitstreak, becomes the hottest teen sensation in the country. And now they’re about to perform in front of 15,000 screaming fans.
So why isn’t he jumping for joy?
Well, for starters, that hit on the radio wasn’t really recorded by his band. In fact, six months ago, he and his friends could barely play a note between them. And now they’re about to perform in front of 15,000 screaming fans. What begins as a mindless prank quickly spins out of control, involving his father’s secret past as a 70’s rocker, a high school bully who wants in on the action, and a powerful, ruthless, media mogul who will stop at nothing to claim the band as his own. Will Jonah prevail? Or will he and his band go down in flames and become the biggest farce in pop music history?

Who doesn't want to be an overnight sensation in some sense of the word?  The title alone had me going "I need to read this!"  I typically don't read about a bunch of guys...especially teenage ones...but this book pulled me in.  From Jonah to Lanny (who you'll get to know when reading), I was hooked on every character in this book.

Ok so you're asking yourself - why is she freaking out over a bunch of teenage guys in some fictional book?  Well, haven't you ever thought "What might happen if tomorrow my nonsensical writing is published and takes off?" or "What if I get discovered on youtube?"  Hey, it could happen, but what would you do?  In this book, I got to see one side of exactly what would happen if you were discovered on a lie.  Wait, a lie?  Oh yea, there's quite a bit of it in this book, but with sort of good intent.  It really opened my eyes to just how deep a lie can go, but how it can actually, in turn, help in the long run.  Did I actually admit to a lie possibly helping?  Why yes, yes I did.  So a bunch of high school kids get caught in a lie, which leads to a small romance (there's always a little tiny bit right?) and a lot of drama, gossip, and all around fun.

What I didn't expect was the sheer amount of people Hal Eisenberg would put into the lie, in other words, how many would help pull off a huge lie.  Here's the thing though...what happens in the books ending is kind of a shock and though in my logical mind I'm thinking "that could never happen in a million years" my wild, illogical brain is going "wooooo Hitstreak!"  Oh right, Hitstreak, well, they're a band who you'll get to know during Overnight Sensation.  It's a bit strange though, a bunch of teenage boys going from zero to hero?  Ah well, I suppose somewhere, somehow, it's happened before (think N'Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees...or for the younger generation, One Direction).

What's truly amazing during the book is, even with the smallest of characters, I fell in love, or hate, with every single one of them!  Wish you could lead the rock and roll lifestyle but don't know where to start?  This book might just give you some crazy scheme to follow.  I'm not saying it WILL happen to you - but Overnight Sensation definitely makes the possibility come alive!
