What if a beautiful vintage dress could take you back in time?
Louise Lambert has always dreamed of movie starlets and exquisite gowns and longs for the day when she can fill the closet of her normal suburban home with stylish treasures. But when she receives a mysterious invitation to a vintage fashion sale in the mail, her once painfully average life is magically transformed into a time-travel adventure.
Suddenly onboard a luxurious cruise ship a hundred years ago, Louise relishes the glamorous life of this opulent era and slips into a life of secrets, drama, and decadence. . .
I saw this book in the store one day while I was browsing about. Honestly the pink cover screamed at me for my attention! Well I had to have it. Time traveling by fashion? That is awesome. Of course this book is geared towards 5th-8th graders but the story itself is great! I love the themes that sprout out from this story such as history, fashion, learning about yourself and making friends.
Louise Lambert craves for vintage fashion. She can't get enough of it considering she's only twelve years old in the book. She lives for fashion! So one day she gets an invitation to this vintage fashion sale. She could not resist this and ends up going. If you were so into fashion and got a private invitation to a sale event for fashion? You'd totally go, wouldn't you?! So off she goes to find the place as it made her wonder how this place was here? She made note that she had never seen this place before. Another reason she jumped on this chance is to find a dress for the party that is coming up.
As she enters the store, she ends up meeting these two strange ladies. The ladies that own the shop are kind of kooky characters but lovable and fun. While Louise browse the shop, she finds a stunning dress that just calls to her. The two older ladies encourage her to try it on. Louise gives in to try on the dress. As she sees herself in the mirror, she loves the dress! She then gets shipped back in time on a ship! At first she did now know where she was and who was she. Somehow she figures it out and learns she was on the Titanic! Before she knew she was on the Titanic, she was fine but once learned its name, she realized she needed to depart somehow. Will she figure out how to save herself and those she's met on the ship? Can she do it?
This was such a fun, quirky and quick read. I love how Louise learns and reacts on being on the Titanic. She also did take note of the fashions from that time period too. The author brought these pages to life and the illustrations of the gowns were amazing.
The book does have illustration of the gowns and makes you appreciate and understand of the events that were going on in the story. I am a huge fan of Titanic stories. I was glad to make this purchase. The character Louise is a likable, fun and adorable character. One would be happy to go on her journey with her. Hope there are more to come and will be on my shelf.
