This weeks featured Indie Author is

Nikki Van De Car

Nikki Van De Car is a first-time novelist, and she is addicted to Skittles.  It's a problem.

Nikki also an accomplished knitter and blogs about life with her daughter and shares knitting patterns and ideas at

Nikki did something really cool for everyone! She created a playlist, NOT of what she listened to during the writing process – but as if it were the actual soundtrack to ONE WEEK if it were a movie! I tired to embed all the You Tube vids here, but it overloaded things so simply click the title of the song to see the vid and hear the song!

So, with our further ado I give you the ONE WEEK SOUNDTRACK

Lana Del Rey "Ride"
The Clash "The Guns of Brixton"
Cat Power "Could We"

Ryan Adams "New York New York"
The Blue Cats "Wild Dogs of Kentucky"

Rachael Yamagata "Be Be Your Love"
Iron & Wine "Sacred Vision"
Blind Pilot "Keep You Right"
John Doe & Kathleen Edwards "Golden State" (This one was also on True Blood--ignore the dripping bloody mouth.  That totally doesn't happen in my book.)

And as a bonus, this is what I was listening to a lot when I was writing the book.  It is horrifically depressing.  I don't know why it helped me write what is essentially a cheery and fun book.  But there you are.

The Antlers "Bear"

One Week is the story of Bee Gold, who finally gives up on her father, her friends, and her life in general, and takes off from LA to New York with no money, no food, and no plan:"It took me six days to get to New York, and one day to get back. In those six days, I starved, I stank, I hitchhiked, I broke-and-entered, I lost my virginity, I sort of found it again, and I learned that love and hate have a lot in common, really.  In that one day that it took to come back home, I learned that all I had gone through had no point at all, except for how it meant everything to me."
