Living together unsupervised, five troubled teens confront demonic forces and are compelled to deal with their problems in distinctly different ways. Paranormal meets psycho meets Goth in this story of a supernatural haunting and budding love.
High school junior, Ben, hacks into his step-father's real estate holdings and provides rooms in an old two-story house to various outcasts: the schizophrenic kid, the angry Goth girl, and the homeless girl who worships him. When Megan needs a place to live she comes to the rooming house with a different set of problems and the ability to confuse and attract Ben.
One by one strange and mysterious occurrences stretch the teens’ beliefs in the supernatural. How they deal with demons, real and imagined, has tragic as well as redeeming consequences.
So as soon as I finished this book I sat down to write this review and then I stopped myself because I was absolute rubbish and I realized I needed to stop and let the book percolate in my mind.
Here I am a week later and I have decided what to put in my review. I liked the descriptions of the evil spirits in this book. I was also thoroughly scared which might have been partially because it was the week before Halloween and pretty much everything is scarier then. I don’t watch scary movies or TV or go to haunted houses at all. I don’t even watch shows that hunt ghosts but I chose to read this book and man am I freaked out. Unfortunately I found the characters lacking, bits and pieces of background were given about some of the characters and nothing about others which I found annoying. I like more, if a character is going to have issues I want to know why they have them.
This is definitely not Ms. Chapoton’s first book as according to her blog she has written numerous ones both YA and Kids as well as Christian non-fiction. I think I had higher hopes for this book as the synopsis reeled me in but it fell short. I cannot say I recommend this book because the story is great but if you want to get a bit of a scare then this one is for you.
