When Katia enrolled at Crossroads Academy she knew things weren’t exactly going to be easy. The sole heir to the worlds’ most powerful vampire, her presence was bound to cause a stir. But nothing could have prepared her for this. Whispers follow everywhere she goes. So does trouble.
Bodies start turning up in nearby Rutland and Katia is sucked into a twisted web of danger and deceit. Haunted by nightmares she can’t explain and a thirst for blood that is never sated, Katia will do whatever it takes to keep her past buried.
Nothing at Crossroads is what it seems and Katia’s secrets may be the darkest of them all.
This is the first book of the Crossroad's series published by J.J. Bonds. I saw the cover of this story and fell in love with it . Once I read the description of the book, I knew this was going to be a good read.
The main character Katia has been through a lot emotionally, mentally and physically. She ends up going to the Academy where she was on her guard for most of the time. This made me wonder why Katia had her guard up? Was there some big secret she was hiding? Eventually bit by bit she ends up breaking away that tough skin of hers to her counselor along with having one or two friends along the way. This was not an easy process for her. I liked how Katia breaks down slowly a bit and makes a friend or two. It was a nice process for her to go through.
While she's at school, she somehow ends up with Nikolai who is an assistance instructor in the fighting class that Katia is in. She ends up getting help from Nikolai. Nikolai helps Katia become a better fighter and there is such an amazing spark between the two of them. I love how Nikolai and Katia give each other a hard time. Other than Nikolai being her friend and perhaps something more. Katia somehow ends up meeting Shaye who is a girl who loves to stand out and just doesn't care about what others think. Shaye and Katia slowly become friends.
With everything going on in school, her nightmares return. Katia knows something is up with her nightmares. More things begin to unfold causing Katia to know that it is related to her. Katia also has a secret which will be unleashed. What will she do? Will she stand up and fight? Will she run and hide? What will Katia do?
The characters were great and vivid. It took place at a boarding school where it was just for vampires only but showed the awkwardness, love/hate towards school, friendships that are great and not so great, crushes, and how everyone had their own thing going on as well. This is a nice and different take on vampires. It literally had me wanting to turn each page to see what would happen next with Katia. The ending was fantastic and gave quite a bit information to the questions I had!
I will be reading the next book - Red Dawn. So if you like vampire stories, you so need to get this one on your list to read.
