Seventeen year old Zoe Vanderveen is a GAP—a genetically altered person. She lives in the security of a walled city on prime water-front property along-side other equally beautiful people with extended life spans.

Her brother Liam is missing.

Noah Brody is a natural who lives on the outside. He leads protests against the GAPs and detests the widening chasm they’ve created between those who have and those who don’t. He doesn’t like girls like Zoe and he has good reason not to like her specifically.

Zoe’s carefree life takes a traumatic turn. She’s in trouble and it turns out that Noah, the last guy on earth she should trust, is the only one who can help her

Perception is a book of mystery, romance and action. It takes place in the future where there are wars and climate changes. I rarely read books on the matters of the future but this one got my attention due to the main character named Zoe.  In this future there are GAP and naturals who live separately from each other.   GAP is a genetically altered person and natural is a person who lives their lives of not being genetically altered.  Neither one of them really like the other.

I love how Zoe takes charge to find out why her brother Liam is missing.  At first she assumes, her parents and the authorities will figure out why Liam was missing. As a few days go by, her curiosity gets the best of her as the authorities are not really digging into the aspect of why he was gone.  Her parents seem to just push it aside to the matters of Liam heading off being a man in love or something like that.  She digs further and further into finding out the  mystery of her brother.  News arrive that Liam is dead.  Her parents grieve and yet are keeping secrets from Zoe.   Some of the things she unravels gives her shock and disappointment.  She questions about her life.  I would have felt the same way if I found out the same type of information as Zoe.

Somehow on  her mission of finding out the truth of her brother, she had to go outside of the GAP world where the normal people lived.  She had a hunch that somehow Noah Brady would know more on the matters of her mission as she saw him from the news.  At first she did not want to have anything to do with him but as her search digs further in, she needed Noah more than she knew.  The feeling is mutual to Noah as well.  He does not want anything to do with GAP people especially with Zoe, but somehow he changes his mind.  Perhaps there are sparks between the two of them?  I love the interaction between Zoe and Noah.  One moment they are neutral to each other and then the next they are curious of each other's life.   These two make a great pair.

As Noah helps her as they continue the mission with one event after another.  It always seems to be another box to open up to solve the mystery of what had happened to Zoe's brother, Liam. Once she finds out the truth, Zoe's life takes another unexpected turn for the worse.  Noah on the other hand manages to survive as well but would not give up on Zoe.   What would cause these two to be apart? Would Noah and Zoe continue to see each other?  Would they solve the mystery of what had happened to Liam?  Why is this such a secret?

You'll be shock and amazed of this wonderful enigma!  It's a great book to read and go get it today. You won't regret this adventure of sci fi, adventure, romance and action!
