Elise is a normal seventeen-year-old girl until the day she wakes up in a desert park, with no idea who she is.

After that episode, her life takes a bizarre turn. She’s experiencing unexpected flashes of insight into people’s lives—people she’s never met before. Strangers frighten her with warnings about the approaching Shadows. And although Elise has never had a boyfriend, she suddenly finds herself torn between two handsome but very different young men: Abe, the charming bad boy whose effect on her both seduces and frightens her, and the mysterious Harlin, who’s new to town but with whom Elise feels an urgent, elemental connection—almost as if they are soul mates.

Now Elise begins to question everything about her life. Why do these guys both want her so desperately? What are the Shadows? Why does the name Charlotte inspire a terrifying familiarity? And who is Elise, really?

My Review:

The sequel to A Need So Beautiful!

There is a new player in the game named Elise.  Elise has memories of Charlotte and it unravels in many unexpected events.  For instance some events have her feel "the Need" which triggers some more the memories.  The memories leave her confused and wanting to figure out why she was having them.  She mentions it to her father as he tries to help but not much he can do.  I felt it would be confusing to have some memories that were not your own.  Other things that happen to Elise on top of dealing with the memories is her relationship  with her sister becomes more distant and meets up boys.   Elise comes out to be a good girl who loves her family and always tries to do the right thing. She always thinks the best of everyone.

The beginning of the book left me a bit confused.  There was something about it that made it hard to stick with the story.  I decided to keep on reading hoping it would get better and it did.  It allowed me to get the depth of the story behind Elise!

Of course there is a love interest in the book where Elise goes for the bad boy Abe which had bells going off in my head saying "Danger danger!!"  Obviously I was not a fan of Elise being with Abe.   There was just something about Abe that didn't click with me, maybe it was the fact he seemed cocky in a way or that he had a dark side?   My hunch on Abe was right.

I was obviously rooting for Harlin to hook up with Elise for some reason. The relationship is amazing but takes a slow pace to find each other! I love love how Harlin slowly makes his way towards Elise where she remembers Charlotte's memories with him.    Once again Harlin shows off of being the tough guy and yet a tender spot sprouts out at Elise as Charlotte comes back.  The relationship between those two are magic!

I was excited to learn about the dark side. The appeal to the dark side was an attention grabber.  In the theme of good vs evil, got to have the dark side somewhere. I know I love books with the good vs evil themes in it.  Now since Abe seemed to be geared to the dark side, as he faltered for redemption.  This shows you it's never too  late!  I loved that.  Anyways, Onika makes an appearance as she faces Monroe, Elise and Harlin. That was quite a task for Onika and Monroe to see each other again at the end of the book.    There was one thing that shocked me was about Elise sister which has to do with the Shadows.

The book was an okay read!  If you are looking for something unique with a supernatural element to it, then this book is for you!  I recommend you to read the first book though.

  1. I think I need to read these books. I love good vs. evil stories where things aren't cut and dry. I like my heroes a little evil and my villains to think they are the good guy. :)
