Many of you may recall the YA Rebels did Trend Forecasts last week, and in it I discussed Interactive Books as being one of the front runners for leading the trends in the upcoming years. You know, the kind that you can not only read but see, feel and live, through all things internet, apps and more.

I’m lucky enough to be able to bring you the best example of this, from author Patrick Carman and his newest YA novel DARK EDEN (HarperCollins 2011

Fifteen-year-old Will Besting is sent by his doctor to Fort Eden, an institution meant to help patients suffering from crippling phobias. Once there, Will and six other teenagers take turns in mysterious fear chambers and confront their worst nightmares—with the help of the group facilitator, Rainsford, an enigmatic guide. When the patients emerge from the chamber, they feel emboldened by the previous night's experiences. But each person soon discovers strange, unexplained aches and pains. . . . What is really happening to the seven teens trapped in this dark Eden?

Patrick Carman's Dark Eden is a provocative exploration of fear, betrayal, memory, and— ultimately—immortality.

Personalized for Me, My Shelf and I, Patrick Carman’s Dark Eden Story Engine website will take into directly into Fort Eden as if you are actually living the experience through a series of audio files, videos and words. (click image below to be taken to the story engine)

This is the future of books my friends, I believe it whole-heartedly! Giving kids who are so focused on video games and their phones something that is up their dig4885565ital entertainment alley, will bring them back to reading. Slowly but surely!!!

If you’ve not yet read Dark Eden, don’t let it stop you from using the story engine. Playing along will only enhance your experience once you do read it! Why not walk through the book yourself before you read it?

What if you have read Dark Eden and you want more Patrick Carman….well I can help there too! Check out the SKELETON CREEK series, just one of his other interactive book series.

And if you STILL want more:
