Sometimes there's no easy way out.
Victor hates his life. He has no friends, gets beaten up at school, and his parents are always criticizing him. Tired of feeling miserable, Victor takes a bottle of his mother's sleeping pills—only to wake up in the hospital.
Bull is angry, and takes all of his rage out on Victor. That makes him feel better, at least a little. But it doesn't stop Bull's grandfather from getting drunk and hitting him. So Bull tries to defend himself with a loaded gun.
When Victor and Bull end up as roommates in the same psych ward, there's no way to escape each other or their problems. Which means things are going to get worse—much worse—before they get better…

My take: My thought when I saw the synopsis to this was “who hasn’t gone through one aspect of either bullying, or being bullied?”  That was a good lead into making me wonder, what’s the other half like?

K.M.Walton does a fantastic job of showcasing just how life is for a bully in giving us the character Bull.  Now normally you’d think “yea normal, bullies are bullies because they need someone to pick on.” Okay so that’s still sort of the case in this circumstance, but what home life can do to a person can cause them to be even worse then if it were just a reason of “I feel like picking on someone.”  My natural thought was just to push Bull aside and root for Victor the whole way through because, who would want to root for the bully right?  K.M does SUCH a great job of showing everything about Bull from his point of view that it’s like “I get it now!”

Things between Bull and Victor are tense, and throwing them together, you’d typically think “great now everything will work out and things will be hunky dory.”  Ok, so I get automatic assumptions when characters who dislike each other get thrown together.  Boy was I wrong.  I can’t truly say what happens in the end, but let’s just say, it’s not something you’d just assume to happen.

I think to really get the full effect of this story, you truly have to pick it up and read it.  It’s emotionally packed so be prepared to go on an emotional roller coaster.
