{Yearly Recap} Amber

Wow. I can’t believe I’m doing a yearly recap! Seems like just yesterday I started this blog thing for fun and BAM, look at all you lovelies who come in and support us and are now our friends. *feels all warm and fuzzy inside*

Each of us fantabulous blogger-ettes from MMSAI is going to recap a few things for you. Since we all have our own opinions and like different things, I want each to have their own post about the past year! Keep and eye peeled (you know, that’s just a disgusting way to say that…really….I mean it) over the next few weeks for one from each of us!

I’ll kick things off:

Favorite FIVE Books of the Year
Now, maybe not all were released in 2011, and maybe some haven’t even been released yet…but these are the 5 that stand out for me of the 116 I have read thus far. Also, I’m doing 2 lists…one for my traditionally published authors and one for the amazing Indie Authors as well ( I cheat…what can I say….)
In NO particular order….

top 5 trad a

1. Blood Magic by Tess Gratton

2. The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothernberg

3. Divergent by Veronica Roth

4. Everneath by Brodi Ashton

5. Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

Indie Author Five:

top 5 tindie

1. Exiled by MR Merrick

2. Angelfall by Susan Ee

3. Seed – Ania Ahlborn

4. Oubliette – Megg Jensen

5. Sleight – Jennifer Somersby

Book(s) I Had High Hopes For But Didn’t Love In The End

This is tough, sometimes as readers we get so worked up waiting for a novel to come out our anticipation sets the bar so high, no book could ever live up to it. Or a friend loved something so much they set you up thinking you would love it and then….no so much. With that said, the titles I’m listing shocked even e when I read them and went “Hmmm, not what I was really expecting”. It doesn’t mean I hated them…just that I didn’t totally love them.

1. City of Fallen Angels by Casandra Clare
I’m a HUGE Mortal Instruments fan, and the POV of Simon and the lack of the love story really didn’t keep me as intrigued as I had hoped.

2. Vanish by Sophie Jordan
I wasn’t in love with the first book in this series and hoped that the second would really bring it because the concept is so cool. Dragons! Uh, so cool! But sadly I just felt like it repeated itself over and over and it failed to grab me.

3. The House of Night Series – PC & Kristen Cast
OMG don’t get me started on these. The simple fact it’s like 3,987 books long and stretches only 5-8 months of time….not to mention you can clearly tell when the Kristen Cast is writing as opposed to PC Cast…*shudders* oh and the continual name dropping (I counted 20 something celebs named in half of just ONE book….???)  and desperate attempts to make the book relevant to teenagers of this decade…nope. Can’t do it I read 6 of them and had to quit. I think that I gave them a fair shake though…6 books…

What Blogging Taught Me This Year

Me My Shelf and I was not my first blog, but it is my most successful! If I learned anything this year it was to believe in myself and also to not take quite so much on! When November hit I was burned out!  My family missed me and I was spending far too much time on the blog. Next year I will schedule better, remember to read what I WANT and not just what I have been asked too, and also to do more giveaways to show my love for all of you!

Books I’m Looking Forward to in 2012

Wow – SO many!!! Here’s a few….

1. City of Lost Souls – Cassandra Clare
2. Insurgent by Veronica Roth
3. Fever by Lauren DeStefano
4. Dreamless – Josephine Angelini
5. The Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake
6. Gone, Gone, Gone by Hannah Moskowitz
7. Velveteen by Daniel Marks
8. Ten by Gretchen McNeil
9. Touched – Corrine Jackson
10. If I Lie – Corrine Jackson
