{Guest Post} That Boy

Today we are extremely fortunate to be joined by the amazing Phillip, one leading man of That Boy by Jillian Dodd. This is brought to you courtesy The {Teen} Book Scene tour.  We’d like to thank them for helping rangle Phillip in so we could interview him!

thatboyFirst of all, thank you for joining us on the blog today, Phillip.  We appreciate you taking the time out of your busy life to give us a quick interview.

So you gave Jadyn her first kiss in the fourth grade - why did you run away?

We were like 10, and I was quite brave to even kiss her. I ran away so she wouldn’t have the chance to punch me in case she didn’t like it. After I ran away, she didn’t really seem to be mad, so I asked her to marry me someday. I think it was pretty visionary of me to know who I wanted to marry at such an early age.

You've been friends with Jadyn pretty much since birth - do you think that affected how you reacted to her later on in life?

We have been friends forever, but we didn’t have to be friends. There are other people I have known for almost as long, that I’m not that close to. She’s special, and we’ve always gotten along really well. We rarely fight, probably because I can never stay mad at her. I’m not sure when I actually fell in love with her. Probably in high school. She was so frustrating and had the worst taste in guys. I tried to give her advice, but she rarely listened to me about stuff like that. In college, most of her relationships were pretty short lived. Mine were too. People always got jealous of our relationship. Always thought there was something going on when there wasn’t. That and the fact that I always chose her over whoever I was dating didn’t help matters. I wouldn’t change it though, she’s always been worth it.

What kinds of things do you do to just chill out, relax, get away from the rest of the world?

I workout or jog. I like to kick back with a few friends, a few beers, watch some football. JJ and I have always been able to just chill together. Watch movies, stare at the stars, sit in the hot tub, talk for hours.

What do you think is the biggest accomplishment you've had in your life?

I’d say graduating from college. Now I’m working with my dad and helping to expand his company, which if we pull it off will be big. Marrying JJ will be the happiest day of my life, but I’m not sure I’d consider that an accomplishment. Although getting her to date me and agree to marry me did take a lot of work. I needed to be sure she was thoroughly wowed.

And lastly, what is your biggest regret in life?

That’s one area that JJ has had a very positive affect on my life. I tend to be a bit conservative, and she makes sure that I live life with no regrets. She really felt that was something her parents did, and she strives to make the most out of the time she has. I try to as well. I do wish sometimes that we had gotten together sooner, but she needed to figure it out for herself. I wouldn’t change anything. Except maybe I would have made her stop drinking margaritas that night in Cancun.

I hope those last two weren't too hard hitting for you to answer.  Thanks again for joining us.  Good luck with Jadyn too, she seems like a lot to handle sometimes.

The question were great. Thanks so much for having me. And you’re right, she can be a little stubborn on occasion, and she sure does like to get her way, but she’s the sweetest and most adorable girl I’ve ever known. She views life as one big playground, and she makes everyday an adventure. I’d say I’m the lucky one.

We’d also like to thank writer Jillian Dodd for helping us with keeping Phillip on track while being interviewed. He tends to go a little astray without a mediator!
