With the Experiment in Terror show finding some success, amateur ghost hunters Perry Palomino and Dex Foray embark on their most terrifying investigation yet. A tiny, fog-shrouded island in the rough strait between British Columbia and Washington State has held a dark secret for decades: It was a former leper colony where over forty souls were left to rot, die and bury each other. Now a functioning campground, Perry and Dex spend an isolated weekend there to investigate potential hauntings but as the duo quickly find out, there is more to fear on D’Arcy Island than just ghosts. The island quickly pits partner against partner, spiraling the pair into madness that serves to destroy their sanity, their relationship and their very lives.

My take: I’ve already reviewed both Darkhouse and Red Fox which are the first two in the Experiment in Terror series…and when given the opportunity directly from author Karina Halle to read the third before it came out, I jumped on it like a woman possessed!

This book, I felt, showcased even more of the real Perry.  I got to see her insecurities come out more, and her real life of lying to her parents.  It was plain to see how real this girl could be given such real life circumstances in the beginning of the book.

Dex was the same old Dex, and honestly I still don’t know whether to like him, hate him…or love to hate him.  He still holds that unknown about him through this book – and being such a well developed character in this one, it gave me confidence that I’d know some more.  I’m still confused on the guy though and that’s what makes him great.

Perry and Dex set out on this adventure again with Perry being kept in the dark about the entire thing.  All she knows is there’s this island they’re going to, and there were a bunch of lepers that died there – and that no real history is written because the lepers were Chinese so no one cared since the island is in Canada!  What happens on the island is shocking and twisted.  I feel like you almost have to have a sick sense of humor to find it not so bizarre.

So where will the crazy pair go next, and where will their relationship turn as they continue down this path of ShowNet stardom?  Only time will tell, but I can’t wait.
