Penryn & The End of Days Book 1
Author: Susan Ee
Rating: 5 Birds
It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
I don’t recall a time in recent history when I have been so upset to finish a book. I literally watched those page numbers climb and I knew it was coming to an end. It was the most depressing feeling in the world.
Angelfall is by far the best angel related book I have read! It’s realistic approach (as opposed to the fluff filled story lines we tend to see) and combination of angels, both the good and the bad sort, and a somewhat dystopian society at it’s start, make for something so incredible you have to read it to believe it.
Susan Ee has created, not only an extraordinary apocalyptic world but amazing characters within it. Raffe, has the sarcastic and witty attitude not unlike Jace Wayland in Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments. You know that “Man you annoy me but your too hot to smack” attitude. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about….I very seriously want this book made into a movie not just for the action and because it would be AMAZING - but also so I can see Raffe in a towel…which I expect looks a little something like Chris Hemsworth in Thor…..*drools* Or at least this is what I’m seeing…oh sorry I suddenly got distracted some how….
Back to the review here….. our heroine, Penryn (named after an exit of the interstate, in case you’re wondering about the name) is tough, and not just mentally. This girl could kick you 12 ways from La La Land and back with all her self defense training – and you will get a dose of it in the book that will make you stand up and cheer for woman all around the world. She is the kind of girl I want to read about. Kick ass now, ask questions later.
This book has gotten 5 Birds, it was honestly amazing and a welcomed change from the other Angel books I have read. Anyone burnt out on the whole angel thing, should pick this book up. It’s like the sorbet between courses that cleanses your pallet – you will no longer have a bad taste for Angel books!
